Frequently Asked Questions

1 - 5 of 6

Q1: What is the resolution of this CCD (How much pixels horiz. on how much pixels vertical)

A: Chip: 1/4" format, HAD, color CCD chip Resolution: VGA 640x480 Size: 3.6mm x 2.7 (4.5mm diagonal) Pixel Size: 5.6 micron square Sensitivity: <1 lux USB Cable: 7ft Recommended Minimum System Requirements: PC running Windows 98SE or better 333Mhz Pentium II or better 128 MB of RAM 40 MB of hard drive space Screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher

Q2: Hi, what is the longest explosure time?

A: they really don't consider the exposure time with this it right around a 16th of a second, what it does is continulayy take images and stack them one on top of the other to give the best image overall the longer you track the object the more images it takes so the picture becomes more and more clear.

Q3: Is it possible to use this type of camera with a dob that has no tracking? (other than taking single frames?)

A: You definitely can but you will have to manually move the scope to allow the imager to take enough pictures to stack and give you a good image

Q4: Is there software that will allow me to capture the video from this on a Mac? I know YOUR CD only contains Windows versions, and I already have Keiths Image Stacker and Lynkeos for processing. I just need to capture the video. Thanks! - j

A: Starry Night Software puts out AstroPhoto Suite that will allow you to use a CCD imager with a Mac. Here's the URL; just paste it into your browser's address window: http://telescopes.com/products/Starry_Night_Software_Starry_Night_AstroPhoto_Suite_42300.html.

Q5: Are you able to capture any bright or faint deep sky objects with this camera?

A: Because of its relatively low resolution, we do not recommend the NexImage Solar System Imager for deep-space imaging.

Astro Imaging Made Easy

Whether you currently own a telescope or are contemplating a purchase, Celestron's new NexImage solar system imaging kit is a must-have accessory!

NexImage is a complete CCD solar system imager capable of producing high-quality planetary images with greater light sensitivity and color fidelity than comparable CMOS imagers. Combined with the NexImage software package, NexImage can bring out tremendous detail and reveal a final image rivaling those taken with astronomical CCD cameras costing thousands of dollars more.

High Performance Features:

  • View and capture live video on your computer screen.
  • Automatically filter out video frames most affected by poor "seeing" conditions, leaving only the sharpest, clearest frames for stacking and aligning into a single, high-quality image.
  • Easy-to-follow, quick-start instructions and tutorial with sample video file.
  • Camera-control software for adjusting gain, contrast, exposure time, frame rate and color saturation via a PC.
  • NexImage uses a .25-inch, color CCD chip that gives the same approximate magnification as a 5mm 50-degree-field eyepiece. Its 1.25-inch adapter barrel ensures compatibility with most any telescope, and it's threaded to accept standard eyepiece filters. The adapter also can be removed and replaced with an optional focal-reducer lens.
Camera Control Software:
  • Full camera control allows adjustment of gain, contrast, exposure time, frame rate and color saturation.
  • Preview mode shows live feed of your image, making focusing easy.
  • Video recording to capture streaming video of the solar-system objects.
Image Processing Software:
  • Frame Lists that automatically viewing of individual frames from video stream.
  • Quality-cutoff filter that screens out low-quality images.
  • Wavelet filter that separates an image into a series of unsharp mask layers that can be individually controlled to bring out hidden detail.
  • Image-processing controls for contrast, brightness, gamma curve, RGB histogram and many more.
Includes:
  • Camera with 1.25-inch adapter and 7-foot USB cable.
  • CD-ROM including image capture software to capture streaming video of image.
