Q1: Can I use the 2.3mm Eyepiece with my Celestron Nexstar 80GTL? If not, what is the highest power eyepiece I can use? Do you have a Barlow lense that can help me gain more power? Thanks
A: The maximum useful magnification for that scope is 160X the 2.3 would be slightly too much. The smallest mm you will want to use is 2.5 a barlow will work as well as it will cut the mm of the eyepiece in half so a 5mm with barlow would be 2.5mm
Q2: I have an ETX 125 AT Telescope with 1900mm FL. . Will the 2.3 mm eye piece work on my telescope ?
A: Any 1.25-inch-format eyepiece will work on the ETX-125. That said, though, a 2.3mm eyepiece combined with the ETX's 1900mm focal length will give you ultra-high magnification of 826X. That much magnification with a 125mm scope will just be too much and give you dark, indistinct views. A 5mm eyepiece is the shortest we recommend. The 5mm will give you 380X magnification, which is getting very close to the scope's theoretical maximum.
Q3: I have a Celestron NexStar 114mm with a 1000mm FL. What is the maximum magnification (eyepiece) available for my scope?
A: A telescope's maximum magnification is generally considered to be about 2 times its aperture in millimeters. Much beyond that, image quality deteriorates rapidly. Based on that rule of thumb, the max for your NexStar 114 is roughly 228X. Given the scope's 1,000mm focal length, you'd surpass the maximum a mite with a 4mm eyepiece, which would yield 250X. So you certainly wouldn't want to go shorter than 4mm, and 5mm would be preferable. That would give you 200X, still plenty good enough for lunar and planetary observation.
Q4: I own a Meade 2080 8" SCT. Will this be too much for me using the 2.3mm x-cel and if not, how would you recommend using it? I assume no barlow needed, or if not , what combination would be best for me with this scope please. Thankyou.
A: Celestron's 2.3mm X-Cel eyepiece would procduce better than 880X with your scope, and that would be WAY too much. The X-Cel 5mm eyepiece would produce about 406X, and that would be pretty close to tops for the Meade 2080. Q5: Is it true that ucant use Orion filters on the X Cel series
A: It's not true that Orion filters cannot be used with Celestron's X-Cel eyepieces.
